April Wrap Up

Amazingly, I managed to read all the books I planned to this month! Although I really would have liked to read more. Sadly that won't be improving for the following months because of all the exams and assessments, but hopefully I'll get a ton more reading done in the summer.

January-April Book Haul

I rarely do book haul posts because I never buy enough books in one month to make a post about it. So I decided to collate my hauls from the first 4 months of 2017 to make this one big post. Turns out I bought wayyyy more books than I thought I did. I might need to set restrictions on myself for the rest of the year!

Things That Make Me NOT Want to Read a Book

Following on from last week's topic, here are 10 things that make me NOT want to read a book.

Friday 21 April 2017

Whisper to Me // unique, vivid, and incredibly beautiful

I'd heard nothing about this book before I picked it up, and truthfully I didn't expect much of it. But I love to be surprised by a book, and Whisper to Me did just that, by being unique, vivid, and incredibly beautiful.

Running Girl // generic and a little forgettable

I've been wanting to read more mystery novels for a long time, and although Running Girl had its flaws, it was a good starting point and a not a bad read.

Angel: After the Fall // the perfect finale the show never had

Buffy and Angel are brilliant TV shows that you NEED to watch. Season 5 of Angel ended on a cliffhanger before it got cancelled, which resulted in the story continuing in comic book form. The After the Fall series will make very little sense to anyone who hasn't seen Angel, but these reviews will contain no spoilers for the show or the comics themselves, so anyone is welcome to read them. I'll be writing a post on why you should watch Buffy and Angel at a later date, but for now, my focus is on the brilliance that is After the Fall.

Things That Make Me Really Want to Read a Book

I'm super picky when it comes to choosing books to read or even adding them on my TBR. 'This blurb sounds good' isn't really enough for me - it's more of a starting point. From there I have a mental checklist of a bunch of other things that will make me want to read the book even more. If it checks off at least 2 or 3 of these things, I will then add it to my TBR. I know it sounds crazy to be so fussy, but I can't deal with long lists or the fear that a book will disappoint me!

Diversity Spotlight #2

Diversity Spotlight Thursday is hosted by Bookshelves and Paperbacks, and involves featuring 3 diverse books every week. I'll be participating once a month so I don't run out of recs too quickly, but I hope I'm able to convince you to get your hands on these books, and maybe in the process get some recommendations too! This week I have a pair of sci-fis (one of which is a duology, so you get a 2-in-1!) and an upcoming contemporary, all by authors I've read and loved before.

Unique Books I Have Read and Loved

I have such a bias towards unqiue books. Regardless of actual quality, I'm always tagging on an extra star for that feeling of 'I've never read anything like this before and I doubt I'll ever read anything like this again'. And when they're actually written successfully? You can garuntee that I'll be throwing paperback copies of whoever comes my way.

Dorothy Must Die // painfully whiny and cliché

Cliché after cliché after cliché after cliché.

My 3 Biggest Fandoms

I don't particularly feel like I'm part of any proper fandoms anymore. This wasn't an intentional shift - fandoms are great! It just sort of happened when I stopped going on tumblr (the fan wars and abuse got too much for me). Don't get me wrong, I'm still a hardcore fangirl. But my enjoyment of things is no longer as community based as it once was. That's why this TTT is just going to focus on 3 of my more recent fandoms that I'm still not over.

March Wrap Up

I've been kind of out of it in the latter half of March, hence the lack of a photo header for this wrap up post. Hoping to be back on the ball in April.
